Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharma)
When the profession of pharmacy was evolved in India during the decade of 1960s, there was a demand for the well trained and qualified pharmacists, in order to fulfill the requirements of the then profession of pharmacy, a short and speedy course of pharmacy is called namely Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) was developed and offered to the students of pharmacy who have passed SSLC/Xth qualification. Later, in the decade of 1990s, the minimum qualification for D. Pharm admission was raised to 10+2/ intermediate/ SSSC. Thus a large number of students showed their interest in the profession of pharmacy by opting D. Pharm and got registered themselves as pharmacists with the pharmacy council of India. These students who passed D. Pharma from reputed institute get registered pharmacists confined themselves either to community or hospital pharmacy stores.
Eligibility
The candidate should have qualified the 10+2 examination in Science stream of any recognized Board of Higher Education with minimum 50% marks in aggregate of the three subjects namely:
- Physics (essential subject)
- Chemistry (essential subject)
- Biology/ Mathematics/ Biotechnology/ Computer Sciences (any one of these)
Career Objectives
Pharmacists in practice settings work in the following areas:
- COMMUNITY (RETAIL) PHARMACY (Medical Store/Chemist & Druggist) pharmacy.
- HOSPITAL PHARMACY [In Private Hospitals,Public Hospitals (PHCs(Primary Health centres), CHCs (Community Health Centres), District Hospitals, Tertiary & Teaching Hospitals, other public sector hospitals]
- CLINICAL PHARMACY(In patient care settings– both in hospitals and community pharmacy).
